Winter Is Here-How To Winterize Your Living Quarters Horse Trailer!

Why should you winterize your trailer? Winters are harsh on our trailer pipes and you could potentially face very expensive repair costs. A single exposure to extended freezing temperatures can cause a cracked or busted water tank, pump or lines. By winterizing it, you can ensure your trailer can withstand the often harsh and unpredictable winters ahead. Make sure you do so before temperatures drop below 40-30 degrees!

If you have a living quarters horse trailer, follow these steps to ensure your trailer is ready for winter!

First, drain freshwater tanks and make sure there is no more water in the tanks.

Second, your hot water heater. Close the hot and cold valve and open your bypass valve.

Third, go outside. Find your hot water heater vent, open it and pull out the anode rod out. This is usually located at the bottom below your vent. You will need a crescent wrench to remove your anode rod.

Fourth, locate your water pump inside your trailer (usually under a sink). Then locate the brass valve next to the water pump and close this valve and attach your winterizing hose to the top. Insert a 3-gallon jug of antifreeze.

Fifth, locate your water monitor panel. On that panel is where you will find your water pump switch, turn that switch on and make our way to each faucet. You will winterize each faucet separately.

Sixth, Turn on the faucet and run it until the water turns pink.

Seventh, don`t forget the toilet! Step on the foot pedal until the water also turns pink.

Lastly, re-insert your anode rod in your hot water heater vent.

Now, your trailer is ready for winter!
